I met one of my dearest friends in high school, but we were complete opposites and in different social circles. If someone had told me that first day of freshman year that we'd still be great friends 20-some years later, I never would have believed it. But pushed together by circumstance – teammates in extracurriculars – by senior year we figured out we had more in common than we first realized.
Knowing what a great friendship we have, it's always been important to me to make sure I teach my kids that when it comes to friends, we shouldn't judge a book by its cover. That's why I'm excited to take my kids to see Paws of Fury: The Legend of Hank coming to theaters July 15. Tickets are on sale now.
Hank is a hard-on-his-luck hound who finds himself in a town full of cats in need of a hero to defend them from an evil plot to wipe their village off the map. With help from a reluctant teacher to train him, Hank must assume the role of town samurai and team up with the villagers to save the day. The only problem… cats hate dogs!
Paws of Fury: The Legend of Hank is an animated comedy for the whole family featuring voice talent from an incredible ensemble of comedians and performers including Michael Cera, Ricky Gervais, Mel Brooks, George Takei, Aasif Mandvi, Gabriel Iglesias, Djimon Hounsou, Michelle Yeoh, Kylie Kuioka, Cathy Shim, and Samuel L. Jackson.
This hero's journey offers comedy for all ages, including physical comedy for younger audiences, pop culture references, and dog and cat jokes, which means dad and I are going to enjoy watching it too.
But most importantly, the movie reinforces relatable messages to my kids, including the importance of overcoming differences, being kind, using teamwork, and offering redemption. It’s a lesson that bravery is more than fur deep.
While we anxiously wait for the theatrical release of Paws of Fury: The Legend of Hank on July 15, we're going to work our way through these downloadable activity sheets and play Jimbo's Samurai Training!
