Day Tripping to San Rafael

A place both KIDS and Parents will enjoy

By Kali Slusser June 13, 2017

Are you looking for a great place to head to escape the heat of the Sacramento Valley this summer?

Food/ play

Consider heading to a less congested part of the Bay Area, where all members of the family will enjoy a day of music, play, and fun!

While a restaurant is NOT the usual place for me to include on a Mac Kid feature, THIS one is one to see!   FIRST, the parents are sure to LOVE the delicious food, (organic and fresh) nearly as much as the hip atmosphere.   Terrapin Crossroads was founded by Phil Lesh, one of the musicians of the Grateful Dead.   You MIGHT catch a glimpse of him or some other "local" artist. If you plan it right, you might arrive while Mr. Lesh is reading a book to kids, or while he is jamming with some friends.

THE KIDS will LOVE, that there is a HUGE place for kids!   A small play structure for small kids, a little clubhouse for middle kids and bocce ball courts for the bigger.  In addition, the restaurant features a "family room" indoors with games, and toys for kids of all ages.

This is NOT your local arcade.   The uber cool crowd will have you feel comfy yet comfortable with your kids jaunting about.

Play/ Exhaust

Afterward, as the weather warms up, travel to McNears Beach Park.   This beach and park are beautiful.  There is a fee to enter the park, full of picnic tables, grassy lawns, a pier out to the water (to fish on if you like) and tennis courts.   An additional small fee will gain your family entrance to the pool with a view of the bay!

Terrapin Crossroad is located at 100 Yacht Club Dr, San Rafael.

McNears Beach Park is located at 201 Cantera Way, San Rafael.
