SwimAmerica Davis is

pleased to introduce a new program for young infants.

WaterTykes is a free, weekly 30-minute class for infants (and

their caregiver) up to 8 months old. The first class starts

Wednesday, March 7 from 9:00 – 9:30 a.m.

“With a pool temperature of 90ร‹ลก, and an air

temperature of at least 90ร‹ลก, our indoor facility is a perfect

place to introduce young babies to water,” said SwimAmerica Davis Owner/Program Director

Rose Cholewinski. “Our infant/toddler program has been successfully introducing families to

the water for the past 10 years, and we’re excited to offer this new program specially targeted to our youngest swimmers.
As a precursor to the classes currently offered at SwimAmerica for babies & toddlers up

to age 3, WaterTykes will focus on gently introducing babies to the sensation of water, begin to

introduce parents to water safety issues, and offer close bonding time for new families. Colorful

toys, water sprinklers, and songs will make for a positive early aquatic experience. It will also

offer a chance for new parents to meet other new parents.

“One of the many benefits of swimming for young babies is the skin-to-skin contact with

the parent and the closeness to the parent,” said Cholewinski. “Many of our parents remark that

swim class is a time during the week they can enjoy distraction-free time with their baby – after

all, you can’t bring a cell phone into the pool!”

The class is being offered for free for infants up to 8 months on a first-come basis. Once

a baby is 8 months old, parents may chose to enroll in the standard infant/toddler program for a

“We feel very strongly that all new parents should be aware of water safety and the

positive aspects of swimming for child development; we’re hoping that offering this free

introduction to our program will result in broad community exposure,” commented Cholewinski.

SwimAmerica Davis has been offering swim lessons, camps, birthday parties at its

indoor, warm water swim facility since June, 2008.
